3 Main Things to Improve your Studying Habit - Life is Beautiful India

3 Main Things to Improve your Studying Habit

There are a few things that you can do to cultivate a habit of studying
1: Choose the study place

The first tip is to have a designated place where you actually do your study. It’s very important that you pick the right place to study and that you become incredibly consistent with studying in that location. The reason you want to keep studying in the same location is that your brain will start associating that place with study, and it will make it easier for you to get into that ‘flow’ state.
Have you ever tried studying on your bed? It usually doesn’t go well because your brain has associated your bed with sleeping. Make things easier for yourself; find a place that will become your ‘study place’.
There are a few factors you need to consider when choosing a study cave:
Location:
Ideally you want a place that is easy to get to; if it is too difficult to get to your study cave you will most likely end up procrastinating. Ideally, If you can find somewhere in your house that’s perfect!
Noise:
You don’t want to study next to a construction site or nightclub. Find somewhere that is nice and quiet so that you can focus on the work.
Vibe:
Find someplace that actually inspires you to study! Libraries are usually good because everyone else is busy working, which can motivate you to get to work.
Some places that have worked well for me in the past are:
  • City/university libraries with cubicles that you can lock
  • My garage at night time
  • Coffee shops/internet Café
  • Home office
2: Time your study

Time your study
Another tactic that has helped me tremendously is actually timing how many hours I study and scheduling breaks. Many people claim to study for 6 hours, 8 hours or more, when in reality that might have actually done 1 hour of constructive work. When you remove all distractions such as; your phone, Facebook, and even the internet (if you don’t need it) you leave yourself with only the option to do pure uninterrupted work. When it comes to study, quality is better than quantity.
The method:
So what you do is you get a stopwatch and you start it. You then study for the allocated amount of time you have given yourself (personally I like to do a minimum of 1 hour before a break). Once you have completed the time you tally it up, so perhaps one tally represents one hour or 30 minutes of study. You only take a break upon reaching your minimum required tallies for a break (maybe you decide to do 1.5 hours before a break). You then rinse and repeat this method. The action of tallying how many hours of PURE WORK you are doing has a motivating effect that will keep you going. Make sure you schedule rewards in as well for example after completing 20 hours of study you will allow yourself to watch 3 episodes of Game of Thrones or something you enjoy.
3. Study with someone who is passionate about the subject

Sometimes to get the momentum with our study, we are going to need some help. Studying with a tutor or someone else who is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject can give you the upper hand. Often we get stuck when we study due to a lack of clarity, getting a different perspective always helps. Over time you naturally will get better at studying and pick up the habits of the person that you are studying with!
